7 Early Signs of Liver Damage: The Silent Organ That Needs Your Early Attention

7 個肝損傷的早期跡象:沉默的器官,最需要你及早留意

Many people are actually experiencing a "chronic liver decline": liver cells first become fatty, then inflamed, and finally form scar tissue (fibrosis), gradually leading to cirrhosis. What's frightening is that there are almost no symptoms in the early stages of liver disease; by the time you notice it, up to 90% of your liver may already be damaged.

Alcoholic fatty liver disease vs. non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: The main cause has changed.
Compared to the past, alcohol is no longer the primary cause. Comparing alcoholic fatty liver disease with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, alcoholic fatty liver disease accounts for only about 4% ; most liver problems actually stem from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

7 early signs of liver damage (you might not have thought of the liver)

1 ) Distended/tight/dull pain in the upper right abdomen, radiating to the right shoulder or right back.
Discomfort below the right ribcage can radiate along the phrenic nerve to the right shoulder, right arm, or inner side of the scapula. A swollen liver can compress the small passageway leading to the gallbladder, often mistaken for a simple gallbladder problem.

2 ) Decreased endurance and easy fatigue
It's not necessarily "very sleepy," but rather that you don't have much energy, you run out of energy quickly after exercise or labor, you feel particularly sleepy after meals, and it's difficult to get up.

3 ) Itchy skin (commonly found on the hands, feet, and soles of the feet)
Bile salts flowing back into the tissues can cause itching; many people experience it more noticeably at night (it is more easily noticed when there is less activity and slower circulation).

4 ) Red spots/spider nevi, gynecomastia in men, and softer, shinier skin.
This is related to elevated estrogen levels. In men, as liver function declines, skin becomes softer, leg hair decreases, and skin becomes shinier; in women, issues related to estrogen dominance are more common.

5 ) Decreased thyroid function
The activation of thyroid hormones depends on the liver. When the liver is not functioning properly, symptoms of hypothyroidism may appear, such as fatigue, hair loss, poor energy, high cholesterol, and dry skin.

6 ) Vitamin D supplementation not increasing even after prolonged use
Even with sun exposure or supplementation, 25- hydroxyvitamin D levels (the one tested in blood) remain low because vitamin D storage and utilization require liver involvement in protein binding and metabolism. Common associated issues include: ** systemic inflammation, weakened immune system, and calcium metabolism problems (cramps, muscle tension, and nodules) ** .

7 ) Darker urine color and abnormal odor
An unusual odor or darker color when urinating may be a warning sign of liver strain.

What damages the liver? The real root cause is not just alcohol!

Commonly cited claims indicate a strong correlation between obesity, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and fatty liver disease; however, the more crucial dietary factor is:

  • sugar
  • Starch (which is essentially a sugar)
  • Seed oil (industrialized vegetable oil)

Long-term consumption of high-sugar and low-quality fats leads to high blood sugar, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and obesity, ultimately resulting in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease inflammation fibrosis/cirrhosis. Many young people believe that as long as they are not overweight, they can "afford junk food," but they still experience fatigue, poor sleep, and abnormal cholesterol levels.

Want to protect your liver and reverse early signs? Start by reducing these three things.

  • Less sugar
  • Reduce consumption of refined starches, such as white rice, white flour, pastries, and syrup-based breakfast foods.
  • Low-seed oils, such as those commonly found in fried foods, processed sauces, and packaged snacks.

When you significantly reduce these three categories, most of the above symptoms will often improve. The next step is to consider "what to eat" and gradually establish a liver-friendly diet.

summary
The liver is highly capable of "self-repair," but it can also be very silent. Don't wait until test results are abnormal or symptoms become severe before taking action. Pay attention to the 7 early warning signs mentioned above, and start with your daily diet; many problems can be reversed.
