Misleading "health" products

  1. Trans fats : Originally made from cottonseed oil for candle making, they were later used in cooking oils (such as Crisco ). They were introduced to the market without safety testing and were only banned a century later.
  2. Asbestos, DDT , and the herbicide Glyphosate : These were once widely used but were later proven to be toxic.
  3. Fluoride : a byproduct of the aluminum industry, added to drinking water and toothpaste, may affect intelligence.
  4. Sodium nitrate : Originally used to stabilize gunpowder, it was later added to processed meat products such as sausages and bacon.
  5. Saccharin : An artificial sweetener derived from petroleum.
  6. Biosolids : Made from wastewater treatment plant waste, used to grow vegetables .
  7. Dent corn : genetically modified and inedible, yet used to produce high-fructose corn syrup, food starch, seed oil, and even vitamin C.

Number one lie: Carbohydrates are essential for health.
