Fatty liver disease involves two types of fat: atapost tissue and ectopic fat . Ectopic fat is fat that has "overflowed" from fat cells into other organs, including the liver and joints.
Adipose tissue itself is an endocrine gland that produces cytokines , and these proteins can cause inflammation. Ectopic fat can also increase cytokines, leading to systemic inflammation, including in the joints. It may even trigger rheumatoid arthritis.
