Being healthy is not about avoiding stress, but about learning to live with it.

健康不是避開壓力,而是學會與壓力共存

The body needs challenges to become stronger.
Dr. Berg points out that a truly healthy body does not come from a "zero-stress" environment, but is built through moderate challenges and stimulation. This phenomenon is called "hormesis" —meaning that small doses of stress can actually make the body stronger. Exercise, alternating between hot and cold temperatures, short-term fasting, and even trace amounts of phytochemicals are all "benign stresses" that promote the body's self-repair.

Stress triggers the body's adaptation mechanisms.
The human body possesses a highly intelligent adaptive system, regulated by the endocrine and autonomic nervous systems, that helps us adjust when facing stress. Just like building muscle, minor damage can stimulate rebuilding, making muscles stronger. When we exercise or fast for a short period, cells produce "heat shock proteins" and "detoxification enzymes" to clear damaged substances and initiate the body's self-repair process.

Eat less, eat colder foods, and exercise more – these are all healthy ways to stimulate your body.
Dr. Berg points out that moderate "hunger" can promote brain cell proliferation, immune system regeneration, and mitochondrial reconstruction. Brief exposure to cold (such as a cold water bath) or stimulation from high temperatures (such as a sauna) can also boost metabolism and immune response. These natural stresses, though minor, are catalysts for health.

Excessive cleaning can actually weaken the immune system.
Studies show that children growing up in overly clean environments are more prone to allergies and immune problems. Conversely, children who are exposed to soil, animals, and natural environments have more mature immune systems. The human immune system needs to be "trained," not overprotected.

Health is not about escaping stress, but about mastering it.
Too many modern people mistakenly believe that health equals comfort. In fact, moderate stress can promote bodily balance and improve disease resistance. As Dr. Berger emphasizes, "You cannot create health in a completely stress-free state." Learning to challenge your body is the true path to lasting health.
